Poker is a card game in which one player contributes a certain amount of money to the pot. In the beginning, all players are dealt two cards – one face up and one face down. When a player raises, he or she must also “raise” (add additional money to the bet in front of him or her). If all subsequent players fold, the player must fold, otherwise he or she will forfeit his or her bet.

He had observed a cheating game on a Mississippi riverboat and attached the term to it. The game involves two to four players, each holding a set of cards. All players buy in by purchasing chips and usually for the same amount. The aim of the game is to beat the other player in the best hand.
