Dumping E7 Smugs

PackManBrainlure
PackManBrainlure

I just finished re-watching Eureka 7. And I think Eureka may be the smuggest anime girl of all time. I know that sounds like grandstanding on Sheeky Forums of all places where there are numerous smugfus but hear me out. I've captured dozens of instances of smugness and 90% of the time she wasn't even trying to be smug. That's the horror of it, she's smug without reason, without cause, without context, and so smug she doesn't even show it, but rather reveals unconsciously it in fleeting instances. Smugness is so ingrained in her being she can be smug while feeling any other emotion, sadness, embarrassment, fear, longing, loneliness. No amount of suffering can break her smug. She is the world, and she knows it.

Some say she was born of the scub, but I say, rather, the smug.

I will now begin illustrating my point.

You mean more Coralians like Eureka? Part of it is, I imagine, their cautious nature. They wanted to be exremely cautious when humans landed back on earth. I think if they created an entire race of humanoid coralians they'd be seen in the same light as the antibody coralians.

Also they don't seem to be able to just dump all of their knowledge into one avatar, language skills and memories in tact. And even if they did, what then? They didn't want to just tell humans that they were there, they wanted to communicate and connect with them. Only by coming to understand humans as intelligent life forms could they themselves grow as a species.

No, I mean like the Archetypes that the LFOs are modeled on.

Ones that can explain what the Scub is, so that they don't get the wrong impression. The Coralians didn't know shit, so humanity just kind of fumbled around with them, causing all kinds of heartache for everyone involved.

@AwesomeTucker
She's quite smashing. I'm betting she was quite a hit with the fellas.

Carnalpleasure
Carnalpleasure

@Snarelure
I guess it's the same reason why they could make more Eurekas. They can't just info dump all their knowledge into an avatar for them. Even the Nirvash had to grow extensively before it could communicate with anyone besides Eureka.

massdebater
massdebater

@Carnalpleasure
Even the Nirvash had to grow extensively before it could communicate with anyone besides Eureka
Because it was almost dead.

Assumedly the Nirvash was like its final form when it was alive, so why didn't the scub just keep making more of those after the old ones died?

lostmypassword
lostmypassword

@massdebater
Well first keep in mind LFOs in general were a relatively new advent in the world E7, that wasn't something that they made all too clear but for example there weren't any when Holland or Dewey were children.

More importantly though there weren't any when Norb and Sakuya were together (~40 years before the events of E7). That's something that Sakuya acknowledges, that she and Norb couldn't connect without some kind of Median to connect them to the Zone, which is where the Nirvash comes in. Basically, there's only one other Coralian (Eureka) so there only needed to be one Nirvash archetype.

Plus I just don't think archetypes are rare either. The dig site at FAC 51 where all those dying archetypes where shown is just one dig site of many.

Sir_Gallonhead
Sir_Gallonhead

@lostmypassword
Yes, but those were all dead.

Why didn't the Scub just make new, living Archetypes that could interact with humanity without being blank slates?

He's right though, all of those episodes were excellent in terms of animation. 26 most notable for its character animation and 48 for the climactic showdown between The End and The Nirvash.

It's an overall good looking show but it has it's goofy looking moments too. It especially shows its age in its resolution. I know Xam'd is always in its shadow but if nothing else Xam'd surpassed it in sakuga and fidelity if not design.

I don't think the movie is as bad as people make out. Sure it's stupid but it's not as harmful as AO because it's an alternate universe, as in it doesn't affect the canon of the original work in any way. Whereas AO, only when you're acknowledging its existence and feeling ill in the process, does affect the canon since it's a sequel.

Illusionz
Illusionz

@Spamalot
or in the way where it was actually non canonical?
It's canon to itself and even to the main series in a roundabout way. E7 acknowledges the existence of alternate dimensions, and the great wall itself was a pocket of space where those dimensions could accessed. Hence the title: Pocketful of Rainbows. But there's no real continuity leading to or from the movie (which I kinda liked no shame).

I think the main problem with Ao is that it reset all the character development due to the time loop. In that sense, the story of Ao could've been told in 4-6 episodes, since all the relationships are reset (discounting one example where it might not be valid, but I just attribute it to poor writing at the time) and rendered irrelevant.

TreeEater

@Skullbone
Most of the character relations don't get that fucked by the Quartz Cannon.

There is nothing probable, if I'm not mistaken there is even a episode detailing his childhood and his recentment towards Holland that dealt with a bizarre as fuck ritual his family used to conduct and how Dewey who was seen as unfit for it hijacked it after Holland told them to suck a dick and he started his path into craziness there

There likely wasn't a ritual and it was all in his head. It's just coincidence that there was a Scub movement shortly after Dewey killed his father, which he interpreted as the Earth being mad at him.

I liked E7 and Eureka and Renton's relationship, but the true payoff was Anemone and Dominic, in my opinion.

The ending absolutely stunk, and was rushed as fuck. It shouldn't have all played out in the last few episodes, it's like they suddenly ran out of money and were like ok time to end the plotlines even if it's sudden after little to no progression for most of them

After so much snail pace plot development I was extremely irritated the last few episodes were basically just tie-ups after huge info dumps

Never watched AO because of how bad I heard it was, but if I remember right from hearsay it shits all over the first series by implying or stating that humans and coralians can't co-exist.

The ending pushed all my hype buttons. It kind of felt unfair; I was giggling like a schoolgirl.

Well, the retarded part is that they could, but not in a high Trapar environment, which is absolutely retarded when Trapar is a natural byproduct of Scub metabolism.

That was something already established though, that being too far underground where the trapars were densest was dangerous.

I guess it would be like living in a world of farts, but still, dumb.

I didn't actually get any vibes of heresy from AO, having just watched it recently and expecting it to be shit, but what annoyed me was how boring a lot of it was.

I just wanted to see Eureka and the Gekko Crew and never felt attached to any of the members of Generation Bleu. I think the worst part was the fact that Maeter, Linck, and Maurice weren't mentioned at all.

Also the ending itself takes 10 episodes to get underway. 1/5th of the show is the ending. It's anything but rushed. Really it's just that the events that take place at the end happen quickly. There's a lot going on once they make it to Earth, with even Anemone finally getting some focus, but the events of attacking and counterattacking are handled fairly well. The issue I guess comes from Dewey killing himself and Eureka needing to be saved which culminates in the biggest power up/Nirvash magic ass pull in the whole show but what'r ya gonna do? Some clever keikaku or humble winding down of the show after Dewey kills himself just wouldn't fit. I guess I'd prefer if The Nirvash and The End had to work together to save her (because while the Nirvash is quick it's fire power is lower and the opposite is true for The End) but the end result is the same.

Good vibes all around. Supposedly the ending was going to be a lot more melancholic but I'm glad they gave it a happy ending. E7 has its subversions here and there but it's really just a good romp around a pretty world with likeable characters at the end of the day. It gets sad and sappy but I think that helps make the cheery parts that much better, whether at the beginning, middle, or very end.

I love this show so much, and it's one of my favorite of all time, but not for entirely honest reasons. I'm curious to rewatch this to see if it was really as good as I remember, because I'm fairly certain I only liked it as much as I did because of where I was in my life at the time.

Eureka Seven is just so much fun, and the world is really cool. I'm a sucker for good world building. Even if the plot gets really silly towards the end, the characters, music, and animation really drove the whole thing home.

And fuck AO. What pisses me off the most about it wasn't that it was shit, but that some of its ideas and parts were really good. AO could have been good but BONES had a retardation quota to meet.

This was a really faggy post.

I'd say go for it. I hadn't seen it in probably eight years even though I was obsessed with it when I was younger and it still holds up in my eyes, and is still one of my all time favorites, despite its flaws.
